Wordpress ... A Blog or CMS?
Are you like most
businesses and relying on just one website for all your traffic?
Even if you're doing well - what would happen if the site lost
it's traffic for some reason?
(e.g. Google dropping your ranking from their search engine)
Yet for a very low cost, you could have several websites, each generating
highly targetted traffic for you...
I'm not saying that
if you had 10 websites you'd have 10 times as many sales - but even if
you just TRIPLED your sales - wouldn't it be
worth it?
11 Reasons
Why Multiple Sites Work so Well ..
1
- Increased Traffic
Unsurprisingly, when you have more websites, you get more visitors. Some
will perform well - others may not. Either way, they all attract their
own potential customers.
Why have just one salesman, when you can have an ARMY?
2 - Increased
Conversion Rate
Unsurprisingly, visitors interested in toasters are glad to find a site
all about toasters!
As they're instantly on a web page giving them what they want to know
- rather than having to fight their way around a larger website with lots
of non-relevant , the conversion
rate goes through the roof. (Just think how fickle you
are when surfing!)
You're far better
off having multiple streams of highly targetted
and highly converting traffic than just one stream of low converting traffic.
3 - Increased
Relevance.
Mini-sites
should be niche. Most websites try and cover
a lot of subject and so their relevance is diluted.
Let's say you type
in 'toaster' into Google.
Well, Argos.co.uk sells toasters.
But they also sell golf clubs, fishing tackle, garden umbrellas, hairdryers
.... (you name it)
There's also a website called toasters.com
Which do you think
has a higher relevancy to search engines like
Google?
4 - Increased
Page Rank
You may be aware that It's important for your main website to have as
many inbound links from other (relevant) websites.
In particular, Google loves sites with lots of inbound links - it's one
of their main ranking criteria.
Well, what better way of getting lots of inbound links than by owning
a load of small yet relevant websites that you can control!
5 - Ability
to Test & Measure.
Having other websites means that you can try things that you may not wish
to risk on your main website. You can cleanly run tests to see which factors
improve your conversion rate. You can try different prices. You can try
different designs, headlines.
You can even appear to be a different company and sell different things
to see if potential customers want it before
you spend a fortune on stock or even adding it to your main website.
i.e. You can afford
to take risks with a mini website.
6 - Not ALL
Your Eggs in One Basket.
Having several websites means that if one should fail - it shouldn't prove
catastrophic to your online marketing. Equally, you're not held
to ransom by anybody - for any reason.
It isn't prudent to pin all your hopes on just ONE site.
You can Spread your bets and see which ones work best.
(I have over 20 sites and some vastly outperform others.)
7 - Fast Turnaround
You can get a mini website up and getting traffic very quickly.
For example, when the UK smoking ban was announced, canny
entrepreneurs sprang up websites selling smoking shelters almost overnight.
How long would it take your web design company to make all the necessary
changes to you main website - and how much would it cost?
8 - Attract
Different
Traffic
Your main website may be unwittingly attracting a certain profile
of visitor. It may be high in the search engines for certain key phrases.
They might not even be the RIGHT visitors!
By attracting different
visitors, you can be sure that you're covering your options
and that you're not missing out.
For example - a mortgage broker may have a site that attracts the wrong
kind of mortgage leads. (After all - there are lots of different
types of mortgages around)
Or a site trying to promote 'fishing supplies' to trawlermen may be getting
enquiries for 'fishing tackle' rather than nets, rigs, navigation equipment,
depth finders etc.
(There are a lot more anomalies here than you'd think.)
9 - SEO Friendly
Web Address
Having the website address the same as the product or service that
you're selling increases the traffic from the search engines if it uses
the right keywords.
toasters.com is more search engine friendly
than argos.co.uk for example
Additionally, your Click through rate to your website is improved because
when people see that
the domain is what they're looking for - they're much more likely to click
on the link to you.
10 - Increased
Corporate Branding
Simple - the more websites you have with your logo, banner and message
- the more people will remember your corporate identity. This builds trust
and loyalty.
11 - They're
Cheap!
Your main website is the one you're spending the money on.
It's got all your graphic design, corporate identity, bells & whistles
and possibly backend software such as an online shop or database.
It's your flagship.
You can support and protect your flagship with an array of low cost mini-websites.
Each one with its own domain name and each one pumping extra targetted
visitors to your main website.
For a fraction
of the price!
They don't need to
win any design awards or cost much - they simply attract more potential
customers to your main website, thus multiplying
your website portfolio.
Whilst your existing
website may have been designed to be attractive to humans, satellite sites
can be designed to be attractive to search engines.
